Crocheted Medallion #2216 (Crochet...Gotta Love It!)

(From "Star Book of Doilies" Book 22 in the early 1940's). Substitutions will most certainly be necessary.

Motif measures about 3 1/2 inches. This one has a small raised flower in the center and is LOADED with picots! :)

Materials: American Thread Company "Star" or "Gem" mercerized crochet cotton, sizes 20 or 30. No hook size given, but I imagine anywhere from a 9 to a 12 or 13. Motif measures about 3 1/4 inches.

2nd row:Ch 6, dc in ring, * ch 3, dc in ring, repeat from * twice. Ch 3, join in 3rd st of chain.

3rd row:Ch 1, * 1 dc, 7 tr c, 1 dc in ch 3, sc in dc, repeat from * all around.

4th row:Ch 6, sc in next sc in back of petal, repeat from * all around.

5th row:Sc in sc, * 1 dc, 8 tr c, 1 dc in in loop, sc in sc, repeat from * all around.

6th row:Sl st to 2nd tr c, * ch 7, sl st in 5th st from hook for picot, ch 7, sl st in 5th st from hook for picot, ch 2, skip 4 tr c, sc in next tr c, make another double picot ch and sc in 2nd tr c of next petal, repeat from * all around.

7th row: Sl st to center of loop between picots, * double picot loop, sc between picots of next loop, repeat from * all around.

8th row: Ch 10, * sl st in 5th st from hook for picot, ch 7, sl st in 5th st from hook for picot, ch 2, sc betwen picots of nex loop, ch 7, sc between picots of next loop, ch 7, sl st in 5th st from hook for picot, ch 7, sl st in 5th st from hook for picot, dc in next sc of last ow, ch 7, repeat from * all around and sl st in 3rd st of ch 10.

9th row:Sl st between next 2 picots, * work a double picot loop, 7 dc over ch 7 of last row, double picot loop, sc between pictos of next loop, ch 7, sc between picots of next loop, repeat from * all around.

10th row: Sl st between picots, * double picot loop, sc in 4th dc, ch 5, sc in same st, double picot loop, sc between picots of next loop, double picot loop, 7 dc over ch 7, double picot loop, sc between picots of next loop and repeat from * all around.

11th row:Sl st between picots, * double picot loop, sc between picots of next loop, double picot loop, sc between picots of nex loop, double picot loop, sc in 4th dc, ch 5, sc in same space, double picot loop, sc between next 2 picots, double picot loop, sc between picots of next loop and repeat from * all around.
